Community Engagement and Outreach
FRTC Partnership with
Douglas County Libraries
Front Range Theatre Company helps Douglas County Libraries bring their events to life. FRTC partners with the libraries on several major events including Halloween Wonderland, Holiday Gala, The Fairy Tale Ball and Page to Stage. FRTC staff provides scripts, actors, costumes and dramatic needs for a variety of the events and performances with the local library locations. Front Range works to bring our student and adult actors in to the community in a way that also promotes growth and learning. These events also offers the unique chance for actors to use their skills on and off the stage, while engaging with audience members.
Events At DCL
-
Douglas County Library’s Page to Stage program occurs during April and May. The show travels to schools and youth events. The event uses 3-5 actors that retell a classic children’s story in a short theatrical production. FRTC provides the adapted script, actors and costumes for the event.
-
In October, the DCL turns a library into a Halloween wonderland of activities for children and parents. Each year has a book theme; featuring as many as ten actors of various ages. They are paired up to make five scenes. FRTC provides scripted scenes that retell the story. Guests move from one scene to another. The actors do their scenes 15 or more times throughout the evening.
-
In December the library hosts their Holiday Gala. This event involves 5 - 6 actors. They memorize and have three rehearsals for a 15-minute play that is write by FRTC staff – relating to the theme of the year. Some of the events include: The Grinch, The Polar Express, The Nutcracker, Reindeer Games, A Christmas Carol, and The Night Before Christmas. The cast performs the play six times on Saturday night and six times on Sunday morning.
-
In February and March, FRTC perform at The Fairy Tale Ball events across several library locations including Castle Rock Library, Highlands Ranch Library, Lone Tree Library, Parker Library, Castle Pines Library, and Roxborough Library. Working with 5 - 6 actors, there are short skits for them to use as they wander around five different libraries (a different one each week). They greet guests, take pictures with children, and perform their short skits- some of which are ad libs. Some of our fairy tales have included Alice in Wonderland, Red Riding Hood, Robin Hood, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.
Beyond the Grave
Front Range Theatre Company assists with Beyond the Grave at Evergreen Cemetery; a fundraiser for the preservation of the two historic cemeteries in Colorado Springs, since 2021. This event occurs in October and engages a variety of actors and community members.
The event features an original script written with the help of FRTC staff, featuring a new spooky theme each year. Actors perform in and around the graveyard, adding to the magic of the story.
